Are there certain requirements that one must meet
in order to get a driving licence?
Yes, there are some formal requirements.
First of all, you should have your place of residence here.
You can only get a driving in the country, you have the residence for.
In addition, you can only apply for a driving license in the city or community in which you live.
Example: If you are living in Hamburg, you can not apply
for the driving licence in Berlin.
An exception to this is the workplace or school that
you visit regularly.
Example: If you are living in Potsdam but working in Berlin you can
apply for the driving in Potsdam(which is close to Berlin) and tell the
citizen office to send your documents to the test center in Berlin.
Application requirements:
Depending on the driver’s license class,
at least an eyesight test and a first aid certificate must be submitted
with the application.
For the truck and bus classes, instead of the
eye test, a medical and an ophthalmological report are needed.
Educational reqirement:
A previous school education is not required in Germany.
(There are countries that have a certain
School education presupposes.)
Physical requirements:
A height of at least 150 cm is required.
If you are smaller, you need a medical assessment.
If there are physical deficiencies or illnesses, (according to §11FeV
Annex 4 and 5), an expert opinion must usually be provided.
