Do you want to become a better driver?
Here are a few tips that will help you not to drive just safer but
also more relaxed.
Steering wheel Position
Before you check the positions of your hand, you should
pay attention to the perfect distance from the steering wheel.
You should have the wrists of your hand above the steering, while your arms
are outstretched and your back and shoulders are in the seat.
In this position you are neither to far or too close to the steering.
Try to put your hands constantly in the position 9 to 3 ( clock- wise ).
For a long period of time driving students were taught 10 to 2 position.
Then the experts discovered that with the 9-3 position you are closer to devices
like indicator or wipers and the arms were exhausting more in
privious 10-2 place.
Furthermore, in this postion your hands wouldn’t be
a danger for your own face, if the airbag is deploying in the case of an accident.
Driving with a good foresight
That means not only looking forward several tens or hundreds of meters,
but also observing the behavior of the drivers ahead. Furthermore, you are
more likely to see the traffic light that changes to ‘yellow’ and would be not surprised
and may drive over ‘red’.
You should always be aware of what is going on
behind you, also. Regular traffic checking by the mirrors is essential.
Keeping distance
If you drive with foresight you must keep safety distances, too.
This is not only positive for the traffic safety, but also for energy-saving
and environment.
In urban areas at least 15 meter (3 parked cars in a row), outside
cities at least half of your speed in meters. Correspondingly more in
bad weather conditions. This has an effect that you can stop in time and
never have a close call. Never forget, that the cars in front of you
can brake, suddenly. With the right safety distance, you are always safe
from rear-end collisions.
Drive thinking ahead
Incidentally, driving with foresight means also anticipatory driving. I.e.
recognizing the danger in the beginning and reacting immediately.
The following hints can help:
Attention of the other traffic user
Age of the other traffic user
Intention of the other traffic user
This observation help you to react correctly and remain calm.
Driving with concentration
Needless to say that the points listed above only work if you are
fully attentive. Avoid any distraction from the traffic. Each person
has only a small capacity to cope with several tasks at the same time.
Time management
Always take some more time you think you need. Nobody can keep
calm and relaxed under stress.
Instead of saying I’ll be there in 10 minutes,
tell the people the time you’re going to leave. In any case,
it ensures carefree driving without any pressure.
