Which insurance do you need, when buying a car?

Yes, the liability insurance !
You just purchased a car or you have already one.

For motor vehicles and trailers, which have to be registered
is a liability insurance a must.

Damages of the opponent

The liability insurance is paying for any harm, you caused
to somebody who was involved. It makes no difference, if
this happend because of an driving error or caused by your
vehicle without your mistake.

There are two terms you should know:

1. Fault based liability:

That means, that the damage or injury resulted, because
of your mistake.

Example:
You missed the priority of the others and caused an accident.

The damage ( and in case of injury ) will be paid from
your liability insurance.

2.  Absolute liability:
That means, that the damage or injury happened,
because of the operation of the car.

Example:

You hit a foreign object, like a stone and caused a damage
or injury.
Also these kind of cases are insured by your liability insurance
and will be paid.

Please note, that the liability insurance is never paying
for the own damage.

This is insured by the full comprehensive insurance, if you
obtained such insurance cover. Because it is voluntary.
If you don’t have one, you have to pay for damages on your car
yourself.
