Trucks, buses and even mobile homes over 3.5t

have to have the Angles Morts sticker on their vehicle since January 1st, 2021.

Angles Morts means blind spot in French.

The attachment is precisely defined by law and should be visible to other road users from all sides.

This is intended to make other road users aware that the driver’s field of vision is severely restricted by the type and height of the vehicle.

The new law is based on Article L.313-1 of the French Highway Code

and also applies to non-French forwarders and private individuals.

Which vehicles are exempt?

-Vehicles of land-forestry

-Winter service vehicles 

-Emergency vehicles from road maintenance departments

-Vehicles whose structure and bodywork do not have the possibility of attachment

of such a shield.

Where do they need to be attached?

The attachment is precisely defined by law and should be visible to other road users from all sides.

This is intended to draw the attention of other road users to the fact that the driver’s field of vision is severely limited by the type and height of the vehicle and they should watch out, too.

However, the signs do not relieve the driver of the obligation to look both in the side mirror and over the shoulder.

Is there a fine for non-compliance?

Yes there is. Missing signs will result in a fine of €135.
